The Decameron Project
This was a collection of short stories from fiction writers around the world. They were asked to write in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as a reference to Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron from the 14th century, which itself was a reflection of the Black Death.
It is extremely rare for the NYT to publish fiction, and I wanted this to feel special in that way, but also feel tactile and otherworldly—in a devastating year, fiction is sometimes the only way to make sense of it.
We created a custom digital font via Sophy Hollington’s linocut letterforms, as well as pulled the original linocut borders into over 20 custom digital page borders.
